Salman Khan offers financial help to Panvel accident victims

The Being Human actor shows his humanitarian side yet again!

Salman Khan who is known for his humble gestures did it again. The Dabangg dude recently gave Rs 5 lakh to the families of accident victims which took place in Panvel.

A passenger bus comprising of about 30-35 families, met with a horrendous accident on the Panvel highway which is very near to our eternal bachelor’s farmhouse. Apparently, Sallu was quite worried by the accident and hence without giving a second thought, he decided to help the families by lending a support of Rs 5 lakh, to each family.

Now isn’t that sweet? We have to admit that the Dabangg actor never fails to disappoint his fans. What say, people?

Happy 61st birthday Rishi Kapoor

Here’s a look at the actor’s top ten films

Mumbai: Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who turned 61 on Wednesday, has entertained his fans over the years with comedy and romantic roles. Here’s looking at the ageless entertainer’s 10 best films:

Mera Naam Joker (1970): This is where Rishi Kapoor’s astounding journey as a star-actor began. Playing an adolescent who has a serious crush on his school teacher (Simi Garewal), Rishi, at 14, won his first National Film Award. Looking at his performance, under father Raj Kapoor’s direction, even today you feel that he got the confusions of sexual awakening in his character dead right.

Bobby (1973): From here onwards Rishi’s struggle to make his presence felt in heroine-oriented film began. Whether it was “Bobby” or Barood” (1976), the directors focused on the heroine, while Rishi made his presence felt as best as he could. While Dimple Kapadia played the author-backed role in Bobby, Rishi was amazing in his confidence level while portraying the rich, introvert and neglected child of irresponsible parents.

Rafoo Chakkar (1975): Delightful in drag, Rishi simply stole the show with Paintal playing his farcical foil. And yes, wife Neetu Singh was around too. Narendra Bedi directed this enjoyable desi version of “Some Like It Hot”. Amazingly, decades later Paintal son Hiten Paintal played Rishi’s son Ranbir’s pal in “Bachna Ae Haseeno” (2008). But the chemistry was not the same.

Laila Majnu (1976): One of Rishi’s greatest performances. As the legendary lover, he absolutely lived the pain, agony and suffering of the character in the sand dunes of Rajasthan. H.S. Rawail directed this film. Madan Mohan songs like “Barbaad-e-mohabbat ki dua saath liye ja” were put across by Rishi with intense passion. Simply breathtaking.

Amar Akbar Anthony (1977): Playing Akbar in the film where Amitabh Bachchan’s Anthony clearly had an edge, Rishi’s qawwallis “Parda hai parda” and “Taiyyab ali pyar ka dushman” stole the show. No matter how brief his role, Rishi always has fun with it.

Sargam (1979): Armed with a dafli and oozing a rustic charm as a love-smitten villager, who wants nothing but to see the object of his adoration (actress Jaya Prada) happy, Rishi re-defined the do-gooder hero’s space in Hindi cinema by making the character believable and vulnerable. Another very accomplished performance.

Karz (1980): The ultimate rockstar act in the fulsome musical by Subhash Ghai. No one could take to the dance floor the way he did. Not even his very talented son. In this film on the theme of reincarnation, Rishi took sweet revenge on his school teacher from “Mera Naam Joker” Simi.

Prem Rog (1982): Another heroine-centric film where director Raj Kapoor focused entirely on young widow Padmini Kolhapure’s plight. And yet as her silent supporter and sympathiser, Rishi excelled far beyond the script. Watch his expressions during the song “Yeh pyar tha ya kuch aur tha” during Padmini’s marriage. You’d know why many consider Rishi the best actor of the Kapoor clan. Ek

Chadar Maili Si (1986): One of Rishi’s most underrated performances, here he was cast as Triloka, a rustic Punjabi youngster forced to marry his Bhabhi (sister-in-law) Hema Malini who is 10 years his senior. Adapted from literateur Rajinder Singh Bedi’s short story, this bold film remains memorable for giving Rishi a chance to explore something beyond his usual rom-com space.

Khoj (1989): At a time when he played loverboy roles, Rishi took a grand risk with this role of a man who murders his own wife. But shhhh! We don’t know that until the end. And as we all know, ‘The End’ is a long way off from Rishi’s exceptional career. IANS

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Enchanting…err… Photoshopped beauty?

In her latest ad, the most loved B-town diva looks splendid, but too good to be true

When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s first Kalyan Jewellers ad came out in print, BollywoodLife had remarked that her images were worked upon in a photo editing software. That’s not to take away from the elegance and beauty of the former Miss World and fave Bollywood diva.

But in her latest campaign too – shot for Mumbai real estate project The Park – Aishwarya seems too good to be true. If you compare her pictures from the press conference of the same property giant with her advertisement’s images, you will spot the difference. Her chin and cheeks have definitely been reduced, and her images obviously have been touched up – as is done in a professional representation.

But we must say the ad has been shot well and Aishwarya looks nothing short of ravishing in it, with her pretty dresses, lovely eyes and luscious lips. Not to forget her hair let loose nicely and her makeup. Whether she is walking past the pool or sitting with a cuppa, or simply posing to the camera – looking at you invitingly – she is hot!

Look at Aishwarya’s pictures and let us know what you think of ‘em.

Is Kareena Kapoor Khan pregnant?

Yes, but only for her new film with Imran Khan, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. Was it all an act?

So it was an exciting weekend. We caught a peek of Kareena Kapoor Khan (as she will be billed in all her movies from now on) with co-star Imran Khan shooting for Gori Tere Pyaar Mein in Navi Mumbai a few days ago. Yeah, we know, nothing overly special about that, since the mainland township is a filmi favourite. But what we saw kinda stopped us in our tracks as we aimed to hunt down a super-hot story for BollywoodLife.

Someone told us that KKK was preggie; yes, the lady who announced just a few months – or was it weeks? – ago that having a child with miyaan Saif Ali Khan was not a priority and may not even become reality was seen with a large bump in the tummy that could not be explained away by too much dal chawal for lunch or a few too many skipped yoga sessions. Kareena gonna be a mommy! Wow! Now this we just had to see for ourselves, we muttered as we headed to Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, where the shoot was in progress.

But…bleah…no truth in this particular matter, we discovered. Yes, she did have a baby bump. Yes, she did look like she was tired and bloated and irritated and all those lovely things that mums-to-be generally are so late into their pregnancy. But when we trained our telephoto lenses closer in, we saw something that really did not work. Kareena’s bump was not nicely rounded and smooth like it should have been, but square, obviously a pillow that was the wrong shape and size. Her weight balance was wrong, she did not have that preggie waddle and no true-life mother would take her seriously…and neither could we. Yes, it was a movie shoot; yes, she is a realistic actor; yes, director Punit Malhotra is going to make a good film. We know all that. But two things niggle – the shape of that darned bump for one, and the irony of the situation for the other – the real-life Begum does not want babies, and there she is flaunting a bump in her reel-life avatar!

We are still wondering what to make of this one….

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero dialogue promo: Why is Shahid Kapoor pole dancing?

Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn laughed all the way to the bank with their tough cop act in Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore and Singham respectively. And now good-looking lad Shahid Kapoor is wearing the uniform in his upcoming venture Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, co-starring Barfi! babe Ileana D’Cruz. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, this movie will see Sasha kicking some really bad asses and indulge in relentless fun. And here’s the 31-year-old showcasing the might of some quirky dialoguebaazi in this special promo.

In this film, Shahid is playing a Maharashtrian cop named Vishwas Rao who aspires to become a superstar but gets drawn into the real action. He decides to don the khakee and finds his own way to shine as a super-cop who also makes his fans giggle with his relentless histrionics and some really wacky one-liners.

In one scene in the promo, we also found our macho wardiwala doing a pole dance and even heave his chest – a la Madhuri Dixit in the Dhak dhak song – to seduce some goons. Now isn’t Shahid a hatke cop who is as sexy while swivelling around a steel pole as he is while punching the goonda in the gut? You tell us!

Sushmita Sen to make her comeback with woman-oriented film

Sushmita Sen may not have sizzled the silver-screen on her own but such is the presence of the magnificent Ms Sen that she can light up your eyes every time you see her on the screen or off it, strutting on the ramp or gliding on the red carpet. The 37-year-old actor was last seen 2010 movie No Problem after which went on a sabbatical of sorts. Though we keep bumping into her at various events and fashion galas, wondering if she would return to the screen, we were curious to know which project will this brainy beauty will zero on.

And now a secret birdie has chirped to us that that the vivacious beauty is keen to make a comeback this year. Sushmita has not signed any film yet but she is looking forward to do a woman centric film akin to Sridevi’s English Vinglish.

Sushmita is busy these days spending quality time with her daughters-Alisah and Renne. Will motherhood bring the best out of the performer in her? We are just waiting to get answer to that one!

Priyanka Chopra: I’d love to play a bahu on TV

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who is busy hopping from one TV show to another to promote her forthcoming film Zanjeer, says she would love to become a bahu (daughter-in-law) in a daily soap someday.

“I would love to play a TV bahu. The most special thing about TV bahus is that when they go to sleep they look beautiful and when they wake up that time also they look beautiful,” quipped the 31-year-old.

“Besides, they are loaded with jewellery all the time. So why wouldn’t I want to be a bahu of that kind,” added the actress.

Priyanka was on the sets here with her Zanjeer co-star Ram Charan Teja.

The actress admitted she doesn’t watch TV serials but she stays updated about every show thanks to her mother and grandmother.

“There are a lot of daily soap fans in my home. My grandmother, my mother, everyone watches them together. In the evening, it gets tough to talk to them at the dining table.

“They know the story of every TV serial and I also get to know about them because of them as they tell me everything during dinner time,” she said.

15th Mumbai Film Festival: Konkona Sen Sharma on jury alongside international heavy hitters

Her marriage may be on the rocks and her Bollywood career in the doldrums after Ek Thi Daayan where she unwittingly played herself, but Konkona Sen Sharma is definitely keeping busy. She has a Bengali film called Shesher Kobita, based on a Rabindranath Tagore story, but that’s opposite Rahul Bose, not much different from playing a witch. Meanwhile, she’s been also approached to play a prostitute in Ankush Bhatt’s Kamathipura but she’s apparently uncomfortable doing the role. Surely it’s a step up from playing a witch and a whole flight up from being paired with Rahul?

Anyhow, the 15th Mumbai Film Festival has announced an illustrious list of jurors and Ms Sen Sharma is amongst them. Heading the International Competition jury as the president will be director Bruce Beresford, whose 1989 film Driving Miss Daisy won the Oscar for the Best Film. He was also nominated for Best Director in 1984 for Tender Mercies. Rubbing shoulders with him and Konkona will be legendary French screen siren Nathalie Baye, star of Une Liaison Pornographique. Rounding up the jury is Japanese critic-turned-director Masato Harada (Return).

The India Gold 2013 Competition section jury boasts of Oscar-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation) heading the Jury panel as President. Joining him on the jury is Siddiq Barmak (Osama). Journeyman director of mediocre British television programmes Waris Hussein gets a free trip to Mumbai to be on the jury but his unfortunate selection is mode than made up by the presence of Jill Bilcock, editor of Moulin Rouge and of Paani – if that long gestating and jinxed project by the ageing Shekhar Kapur ever gets off the ground. Roger Garcia, the executive director of the prestigious Hong Kong International Film Festival is also on the jury.

The Mumbai festival runs from October 17-24 and will be held at Metro Cinema and Liberty Cinemas as the main festival venues and Cinemax, Andheri (West) as the satellite venue. May we suggest a Vashi centric festival from next year with South Mumbai and Andheri as satellite venues? Much more convenient for all concerned, especially Pune-kars – and in return, we can hold the Pune Film Festival in Elephanta. Righto, Cineswami is off to Hyderabad, Sindh, for the first Telangana/Seemandhra film festival. And it is time for my medication. See you on the other side.
