Ms. Nantawan Sakuntanak, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), expressed her opinion that Japan hosting the 2020 Olympics would benefit domestic investments and construction industry, sending good results to Thai exports to that country in the last quarter of this year.

She expects a 2% growth in Thai exports to Japan in 2013. She elaborated that exporters should take the opportunity to boost bilateral trade in order to compensate for a 4% decrease in Thai exports to Japan in the first 8 months of this year.

She also called for Thai investment expansion in such businesses as tourism and construction, as the sports event would bring athletes and a lot more tourists to Japan, making it necessary to build more hotels and highways to absorb incoming flows of travelers.

Moreover, the furniture and decorative industries would also benefit from the 2020 Olympics, as the construction and renovation of various hotels in Japan would increase the demand for furniture and interior design items, the Director-General said.
