Khon performance in honor of Queen Sirikit scheduled for Aug 28 in Sydney

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that a traditional Khon mask dance will be performed in Sydney, Australia this August 28 in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign.

Ms Bussadee Santipitaks, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, stated that her department is cooperating with the Ministry of Culture, the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney to organize a special Khon performance dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, along with an exhibition on her royal duties.

Set to take place at the Sydney Opera House on August 28, the event is aimed to honor Her Majesty for her role in the promotion and conservation of the Khon mask dance on the occasion of her seventh cycle birthday anniversary on August 12, 2016. It is also part of the 65th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Thai-Australian diplomatic relations.

In addition, 2017 marks the 55th anniversary since His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit paid a royal visit to the Commonwealth of Australia from August 26-September 12, 1962.
