Thailand is providing financial aid to flood victims in Cambodia after flash floods killed at least 152 people in the Mekong River.

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul formally presented the assistance worth 6 million baht on behalf of the government to Cambodian ambassador to Thailand You Ay.

He said after the presenting ceremony that two weeks ago, the Thai eastern border province of Sakaeo was hit by severe inundation. Cambodian towns adjacent to the province were also affected by the forest runoffs and flash floods.

Cambodia authorities said so far nearly 420,000 families have been affected and around 210,000 houses, 1,400 schools, and 500 pagodas have been submerged in water. In 2011, 250 people in Cambodia died in flash floods and property worth $521 million had been damaged.
