Thailand wins Asian volleyball title with defeat of Japan in finals

Nakon Ratchasima, Thailand — Thailand defeated Japan in the finals of the 17th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in impressive fashion, winning in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-17.

The Thai team won a string of stunning upsets in route to their second-ever volleyball championship, defeating top-seeded China in the semi-finals yesterday, and second-seeded Japan twice in the tournament.

A raucous capacity crowd cheered the Thai women on in Chatchai Hall, where some 10,000 fans lined up to try and get the 5,000 tickets available for the finals match.
