The Saint Kilda festival in Melbourne is one of the oldest and southern hemisphere’s largest street festival. It is a celebration of summer against the spectacular natural beauty of the Saint Kilda foreshore.
Crowds of over four lakh flock Saint Kilda to experience the best of music and dance performances. And, this festival has an Indian flavour too – Henna tattooing – which has become a fashion symbol and instant hit with the locals. The intricate Indian designs are catching the imagination of the Australians.
“I love it, it have seen it before, i have a few friends that are Indian and they have henna tattoos as well who use it and I just love them, they are lot of detailed, lot more feminine”, says a Melbourne resident after getting a Henna tattoo.
Henna tattoos are cost effective and last longer. Artists have been specially brought in from India for giving the locals a genuine experience.
“Henna tattooing is becoming very popular, people see it as a temporary tattoos, that lasts for just a few weeks and people are liking it a lot,” said Savita who is a Henna Tattoo Designer from Gujarat and has set up her stall at Saint Kilda.
Australia is said to be the melting pot of different cultures. People from all nationalities come here and there is a great exchange of ideas. And that diversity is visible at Saint Kilda where there is a little bit of India on all the hands.
