Honda presented, at the New Delhi Auto Show, a city car concept they called, honestly and modestly, New Small Concept.
Toyota was not only one that displayed its vision of low cost in New Delhi, but Honda also took advantage of the Indian Auto Show to come up with an accessible city car concept. But it seems tha Honda counts more on “downsizing” and comes with a three-door small car prototype, apparently intended for young people. It is interesting that the this prototype is not designed in Japan, but b Honda Siel Cars India, and, despite preconceptions, it has a coherent and modern design, moving a bit away from Honda specific, while retaining the aesthetics.
The lines are quite sophisticated, with a lot of aggressive edges, but they will probably be slightly censored in the production phase, and probably the multiple LEDs will be treated the same. Modernism is expressed by the black pillars, too, giving the impression of an glassy area surrounding the interior, a very common feature among the fashionable small class vehicles.
This model will enter production in 2011, being produced mainly for India and Thailand. So, even if Honda does not explicitly calls it low cost, we can deduce that it will be a Honda for the masses. We currently have no concrete information if this model will hit Europe or US.
