All members of the 37th Ship for Southeast Asia Youth Program (SSEAYP) will join several interesting activities during their four-day stay in Thailand.
The goodwill ship Fuji Maru, with 330 participating youths from 10 Asean countries, will arrive at the Bangkok port on 18 November 2010. While in Thailand, these young people will take part in various activities, such as institutional visits, interaction with local communities, cultural exchange, and discussions.
The highlights of the activities are a courtesy call on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and a welcome dinner hosted by the Prime Minister. Places of interest where they will visit include the Grand Palace, Vimanmek Mansion, National Science Museum, Museum Siam etc. After the four-day stay in Thailand, the ship will leave for Indonesia on November 21.
SSEAYP, now in its 37th year, is carried out annually, starting from January 1974 as a joint program between Japan and 10 Asean countries to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the Japanese and Southeast Asian youth. The program also aims to broaden their perspective of the world, as well as fostering the spirit of international cooperation by spending time together and participating in various activities onboard. On this occasion, they will be provided with opportunities to join their counterparts and visit various places in their port of call.
The program is sponsored by the Japanese government with the active participation and cooperation of the 10 Southeast Asian countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines , Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
