In its bid to support the cause of saving fuel and going green, Skoda Auto India, flagged off India Cyclothon – Mumbai 2010, India’s first ever international cycling event held at Bandra Reclamation on Sunday, 21st February, 2010.
The ride, that flagged off from Bandra Reclamation had participants from all walks of life including amateur cyclists, cycling enthusiasts, working professionals, housewives and schoolchildren, thus adding to the colour and festivities. The event was marked by the presence of a host of celebrities including bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Reputed international cyclists like Stuart O’Grady and Baden Cooke competed in the International Elite 100kms Men’s Race, which was mentored by cycling great Eddy Mercx. Skoda Auto India too made its presence felt with a contingent of cyclists of their own.
Skoda Auto’s association with the environment friendly sport of cycling has been a distinguished one. For the past six years, Skoda Auto has been an official partner of the legendry international cycle race, the ‘Tour De France.’ Bringing this association closer home, Skoda Auto India collaborated with Mumbai Cyclothon to lend its support to the events pledge of saving fuel and promoting a greener environment. In this regard, Skoda Auto’s highly fuel efficient and eco-friendly vehicles were also present during the event.
Previously too, Skoda Auto India has been involved in eco-friendly campaigns by organising several free pollution-check drives across its 65 dealerships in the country. Skoda Auto India’s participation in Mumbai Cyclothon further augments Skoda’s environment friendly measures.
Mumbai Cyclothon had multiple race categories – the Amateur ride of 24 km, the corporate/group ride of 24 km, the Green ride of 12 km and the kids ride for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 spanning 2 km and an International Elite Men’s Race of a 100 km. Team Skoda participated in the XXX race, displaying great enthusiasm and vigour.
