The Ministry of Education has announced all schools nationwide can reopen on 1st February, except for Samut Sakhon where schools must continue holding online classes.
The Minister of Education Nataphol Teepsuwan announced toay that the commanding committee at the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has made a decision to allow schools in 28 high-risk provinces to reopen on 1st February, except for Samut Sakhon where schools will remain closed with all classes moved online as the situation remains severe.
Schools in four other red-zone provinces, namely Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Pathumthani, and Bangkok are allowed to reopen on 1st February, however they must stagger students’ class schedules to reduce crowding and limit the number of students per class to 25, in addition to other preventative measures such as providing hand sanitizers and regular temperature checks for students.
The CCSA will further evaluate the situation in these four provinces on 15th February, after which classes could return to normal should the situation have improved.
This decision to reopen is still pending final approval from the full CCSA panel which will be convening on 29th January. Schools are however told to start preparing for the reopening, especially the hygiene and safety of school facilities, as well as lesson planning by teachers.
