Health minister sees COVID-19 situation normalizing in 2-3 weeks

The Minister of Public Health has pointed out daily COVID-19 infection rates have begun to stagnate and the situation should begin to normalize in 2-3 weeks while calling on hospitals to bolster protection by dispensing Creat and assuring patients that two million Favipiravir pills are available with more to be ordered.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Chanvirakul, speaking at a ceremony to provide 600,000 Creat capsules to hospitals, stated that the herbal remedy is part of a national registry of treatments made known to hospitals, which are able to prescribe the herb as an alternative remedy for those with COVID-19, noting data will be collected on its use to verify common perceptions of its efficacy.

The DPM indicated that a preliminary study done by Samut Prakan Hospital found that all patients who received 180 mg. of Creat daily saw an improvement in their condition by the third day with no side effects. He said the discovery provides a way to reduce the cost of treatment in Thailand and should help boost morale while the country contends with the COVID-19 crisis. He assured Thais that the situation is under control and is progressing as expected by relevant committees, with all sides contributing to control of the virus, and public health systems operating effectively. Nonetheless, the DPM said most important is public cooperation, as infections have begun to stagnate and should lessen in 2-3 weeks if citizens maintain controls.

Anutin further made known that two million pills of Favipiravir will arrive in 2-3 days to help in COVID-19 treatment. The Government Pharmaceutical Organization is managing distribution of the pills and is ready to order more if needed.
