Thailand’s Public Health Ministry has declared that the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine was more than 90% effective in preventing infections and severe symptoms, after conducting a study on recipients of Sinovac jabs.
The ministry said the study was conducted in Phuket, Samut Sakhon and Chiang Rai provinces, as well as among Department of Disease Control personnel nationwide.
According to the Public Health Ministry, two jabs of Sinovac can provide 88.8% protection against infection and was 84.9% effective against severe lung infection. In comparison, one dose of AstraZeneca provides 83.4% protection after just the first dose.
The ministry added that two doses of Sinovac can provide 90% protection against the Alpha variant and 85% against lung infection. Its efficacy against Delta variant is also stable, and laboratory tests also prove that a booster dose and mixed doses can boost immunity at a faster and higher rate.
