Measures to stimulate tourism have resulted in Thailand becoming the destination of choice for foreign tourists. The return of revenue from tourism has allowed relevant businesses to recover and income to be dissipated nationwide. Phuket was found to have made the highest amount of income from tourism this year, taking in more than 127 billion baht in the first 10 months.
Deputy government spokesperson Tipanan Sirichana spoke of the success in achieving 10 million foreign tourist arrivals on December 10 this year. Efforts to revive tourism commenced with the Phuket Sandbox program which was then expanded to other areas of Thailand. Borders were ultimately completely reopened. Ms. Tipanan said the Thai public’s cooperation with health measures enabled the tourism scene to revive quickly. The success exceeded expectations, with 10 million foreign tourists having arrived between January 1 and December 10 this year.
Ms. Tipanan indicated a large amount of money entered Thailand during January and October because of tourism. Many provinces experienced greater income from tourism, especially Phuket province which took in 127.927 billion baht. 2,329,894 foreign tourists visited the province during the aforementioned period. Runner-up Chonburi made 13.283 billion baht in tourism income from 975,026 foreign tourists. Surat Thani took in 7.586 billion baht from 606,812 foreign tourists.
