India were crowned champions of the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.
On Sunday, India created history by becoming the inaugural victors of the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, winning by a comfortable margin of seven wickets in Potchefstroom against England.
The ball was the pivotal factor in India’s success, as Titas Sadhu demonstrated impressive accuracy and the spinners were able to make the most of the moment. It was a masterful display.
The bowling was excellent, but the fielding was even better. India’s tenacity was highlighted with the dismissal of England’s captain, Grace Scrivens. She had hit the ball towards long-off, where Trisha Gongadi ran in and took a spectacular, tumbling catch.
The Indian team’s jubilation revealed the importance of the wicket. Scrivens was eventually honored with the Player of the Tournament accolade, yet her satisfaction would have been greater if England had batted more effectively.
Shafali Verma decided to have her team bowl first after winning the toss, and Sadhu made a successful strike in the first over. Liberty Heap attempted to pull the ball but ended up looping it directly to a delighted Sadhu.
After being named Player of the Match in the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023 Final between India and England at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, South Africa on January 29, 2023, Titas Sadhu of India is seen in the photo posing in celebration.
The Player of the Match award was justly given to her for delivering two wickets in four overs, which was the lift that India needed. Archana (two for 17) and Parshavi Chopra (two for 13) provided good support to end the tournament in a great way.
Mannat Kashyap, Verma and Sonam Yadav each claimed a wicket as England went from 22 for four to being all out for 68 in 17.1 overs. In a tournament where the batting had been free-scoring, only Ryana Macdonald-Gay (19 off 24 balls), Niamh Holland (10) and Sophia Smale (11) were able to reach double figures.

England got a boost in their prospects for greater accomplishments bowling when they dismissed Verma (15) and Shweta Sehrawat (5) within the initial four overs. Verma struck a four and a six in her attempt to pressurise England at the start, before being caught by Hannah Baker at short fine-leg due to a top-edge.
Tiwari and Trisha were not settling for anything less. Soumya smacked four boundaries in her innings which lasted 24 balls out of 37. As the goal was coming closer, Trisha got more and more comfortable in her 29-ball stay which ended on 24 runs, with Alexa Stonehouse bowling her out as she attempted to finish it off with a flourish.
After a brief while, India was able to observe the culmination of their fairytale journey in South Africa. They arrived, they observed, and they obtained the prestigious title of champions in women’s cricket.
