Father’s Day celebration in Thailand on December 5, 2014!
In Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated along with the birthday of it’s ‘Father of the Nation’, on every December 5. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, as he is the ninth monarch of the Chakri Dynasty has reigned since 9 June 1946. He is the world’s longest-serving current head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history. His full name – Bhumibol Adulyadej – means ‘The Strength of the Land: Incomparable Power’. HM the King is a great achiever. He has been called the revolutionary king, the reformist king, the development king, the jazz king (he has composed no less than fifty songs), and the people’s engineer. The King is beloved of the Thai people, and considered ‘The Soul of the Nation.’
Tradition holds that everyone wears yellow on Father’s Day, the ‘official color’ of Monday, the day of the week the King was born. Here, children start the day off by presenting their fathers with a Canna flower, which is considered to be a masculine blossom.
2011 marked one of the most significant milestones in the history of Thailand as the entire country celebrated the commemoration of His Majesty the King’s Seventh Cycle Birthday on 5 December.
