Students from Divine Yoga, one of Bangkok’s premier institutes for the teaching of the ancient Indian practice aimed at transforming body and mind, will demonstrate various techniques at CentralWorld this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The demonstrations, which are part of 10-day celebrations for the Indian festival Ganesh Chaturthi, will be held at 7pm on Friday and Saturday and at 1pm on Sunday.
“Yoga is very popular all over the world but it is a thoroughly misunderstood subject,” said yoga guru Sanjiv Chaturvedi, who is also the founder of Divine Yoga. “My mission in life is to change perceptions about yoga and take it to the masses,” he said.
Chaturvedi, who has a Masters degree in yogic sciences from the famous Bihar School of Yoga, says that everyone should be able to do the practice regardless of age, fitness level and physical condition. “Doctors inject fear into people, especially older people, which keeps them away from yoga. In fact, the physical practice and meditation have a wonderful impact on their body and mind. Lives are transformed,” said Chaturvedi, whose style is based on the teachings of Swami Satyananda, who combined the paths of asanas (yoga postures), pranayam (breathing practices), relaxation and meditation.
“Most of my classes are designed to suit all levels of students. I educate them about yoga and the benefits derived from each asana. They can apply yoga in their daily lives,” said Chaturvedi.
