Atlético de Kolkata started their Hero Indian Super League campaign on their home turf at the Salt Lake Stadium with lots of flair and aggression while recording a thumping 3-0 win against Mumbai City FC in their inaugural match. Ever since, they have been unable to achieve a single win in their subsequent home matches.
A lot was expected today when they hosted Chennayin FC here in front of a 42,000 plus crowd. But still, the match ended in a barren draw. But Kolkata head coach Antonio López Habas seemed pretty unfazed about their sterile run and expressed satisfaction about today’s result.
“I think we had a very good game today, maybe it was bad luck that we could not score from the chance we created. I congratulate my players and congratulate the crowd which supported our players,” the Spaniard said at the post match press conference.
Habas thought that both teams played a very good game with very high intensity. “Chennaiyin FC has very dangerous players, but we also had the power to adjust our defence to not concede any goals,” he explained.
When it was pointed out that the club had failed to win full points despite having enough time to recover and having the full team was at their disposal, Habas responded, “I think at this point in the competition every team is trying to win full points, we also tried our best.”
When asked to compare the team’s performance in this goalless draw with the 1-1 tie achieved away against the same opponents in Chennai, Habas said, “I think both the games were very high intensity games. We created many opportunities in both games. I think that is how we play our games, we fight hard, we try everything to win the game. But today, we could not score, so nothing happened.”
