Some 40 illuminations and artworks have been installed in Bang Rak and Charoenkrung neighborhoods of Bangkok by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Time Out Bangkok magazine, attracting locals and visitors to come out and take photos at night.
These beautiful light shows are installations for the Awakening Bangkok festival, where about 40 illuminated artworks and lighting fixtures have been installed in the Bang Rak and Charoenkrung locales. Many artworks have been installed in front of the Grand Postal Office building, attracting many people to come out and take photos of the prominent repurposed building.
The installations were created by artists inspired by stories such as the gentrification of Charoenkrung neighborhood, existence of original objects, the development and results of changes; all this being compared to a journey into space.
In addition, an exhibition of abstract artworks is also taking place, expressing human emotions in unusual forms. Visitors can learn more about the meaning and inspiration of each artwork from the exhibition pamphlets or detailed signs. Many visitors to this event say they are glad to see the growing presence of art spaces in Bangkok.
The artworks are now installed at the usual Awakening Bangkok locations such as the Grand Postal Office, Marine Police Residence, Haroon Mosque Community, Soi Charoenkrung 32, Warehouse 30, and Prince Theater Heritage Stay; as well as at new locations such as Si Phraya Pier, Rong Kueak Shrine, Talat Noi Community, and Lhong 1919. This night time art festival is shining its light every evening from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. until 24th November 2019. More information is available on www.timeout.com/bangkok or Time Out Bangkok Facebook page.
