COVID-19: Death toll in Thailand reaches 19

The Spokesman for the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, said today that there were four more deaths and 103 more confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Thailand, as of Friday morning (Apr 3).

Dr. Taweesin said Thailand now has an accumulated total of 1,978 confirmed cases, 581 of whom have recovered while the death toll has increased to 19. Of the four recent deaths, three of them were elderly people with congenital diseases and others had a travel history that showed they visited boxing stadiums. Although the number of new cases has declined, it is still a three-digit figure. There were more cases in Phuket, Bangkok and Nonthaburi. Many of them are associated with recent clusters of infections at entertainment venues and patients who had just returned from abroad.

The government has prepared facilities to accommodate people returning from foreign countries. They include students under the American Field Service (AFS) Intercultural Programs, who will return from Malaysia. They are advised to strictly follow guidelines set by the government to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 to other people.
