The Ministry of Commerce has launched the annual Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair (BIFF&BIL), which will continue until this Sunday.

Presiding over the opening of BIFF&BIL 2014, Permanent Secretary for Commerce Srirat Rastapana stated that the event was being held for the 32nd year under the collaboration between the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and 14 fashion-related organizations. The prime objectives of the fair are to showcase the potential of the Thai fashion industry and to encourage business networking, particularly in the ASEAN and Asian markets.

BIFF&BIL 2014 is taking place for five days at Challenger Hall 1-2, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. Trade days will run from today until March 14 while public visitors will be welcome on March 15-16 from 10 am-9 pm.

Despite the political crisis in Thailand, the DITP has set high hopes for this year’s event, expecting at least 30,000 visitors and 1.2 billion baht worth of sales.

Last year, Thailand’s exports of fashion and leather goods were valued at 9.22 billion US dollars. It is anticipated that this year will see a 5% growth, equivalent to 9.8 billion dollars.
