Embassy of India, Bangkok and Coir Board, India are jointly organizing ‘Indian MSME Coir Expo-2023’ at ICONSIAM Mall in Bangkok on 15 – 16 July, 2023. The inauguration ceremony of the Expo will be held on 15th July, 2023 at Sook Siam Hall of the Mall. H.E. Mr. Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of India to Thailand, Mr. D. Kuppuramu, Chairman, Coir Board and Ms. Pakainay Lengee, Assistant Permanent Secretary will inaugurate the Expo in the august presence of dignitaries from prominent industry chambers of Thailand and senior officials of Ministry of Commerce, Government of Thailand and Embassy of India.
The two-days Expo is being organized to promote made in India coir products in Thailand. India is the largest coir producer in the world accounting for more than 80 per cent of the total world production of coir fibre. The coir sector in India is very diverse and involves households, co-operatives, manufacturers and exporters, producing lifestyle items, beautiful artifacts, handicrafts and utility products from coconut husks, which is otherwise discarded as a waste. During the two-days event, 15 prominent Indian manufacturers producing coir fibre, yarns, mats, mattress, rugs, geo-textile, pith, garden articles and coir wood, will display and sell their eco-friendly products at Bangkok. A Coir Pavilion is also being set up to showcase the activities undertaken by the Government of India to support the coir industry, which provides employment to 740,000 people in the coastal States of India. The Expo is likely to generate interest among Thai interior designers, manufacturers of lifestyle products, retail chains as well as people warranting eco-friendly products.
A seminar on “Investment Opportunities in Coir Sector” is also being organized on the side-lines of the Expo, to create awareness about Coir products, which by the virtue of their eco-friendly and biodegradable qualities, are proven to be excellent in applications towards maintaining the ecological balance and preserving nature.
