People from all walks of life have been flocking to Otop City 2014, ringing up more than half a billion baht in sales.

According to Director of Local Wisdom and Community Enterprise Promotion Office Taweep Butrpho, over 300,000 people have been to the Otop City 2014 since the fair kicked off last week, generating at least 483 million baht of income for entrepreneurs. Popular items include silks from the North and the Northeast, especially those from Lampun province.

One of the Lampun silk vendors said that the item has magnificent textures, as it is made of high grade fabric, and hand woven by skilled weavers. A hand-woven grade A silk cloth costs up to 10,000 baht apiece, he said, adding that he has sold about 2 million baht worth of the fine silk so far.

The objectives of the ‘OTOP City 2014’ are to promote OTOP products, provide a distribution channel for OTOP entrepreneurs, and showcase OPTP quality products to the mainstream market as well as generate income for local communities.

Highlighted in the fair are 5 major types of OTOP products: food & drink, garments, ornaments, home decoration, and herbal supplements. The fair boasts more than 2,000 booths offering selected products from all over the nation. The CDD expects the 9-day grand event to draw over half a million shoppers, generating no less than one billion baht in revenue for OTOP entrepreneurs.

The event will be concluded on December 24th. Interested individuals are urged to visit the fair at Challenger Hall 1 – 3, Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. – See more at: http://thainews.prd.go.th/CenterWeb/NewsEN/NewsDetail?NT01_NewsID=WNROY5712220010002#sthash.h4ga7tJB.dpuf
