While he was best known for his rock ‘n roll moves and ‘wild’ persona, some of the best, but not-so-often remembered songs were also picturised on him. Here is a playlist of songs from his films.

It has been two years since legendary actor Shammi Kapoor passed away, but he continues to live in the memories of one and all till date.

Born as Shamsher Raj Kapoor to film and theatre actor Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsharni Kapoor on October 21, 1930, the debonair actor waltzed into our hearts with his charming looks, inimitable style and intense gaze.

As part of a family that already had established figures like his father and elder brother Raj Kapoor, Shammi had the huge responsiblity of living up to the expectations of many.

He started his career in 1953 with a serious role in Jeevan Jyoti, but realised the need to carve out an identity of himself and stand apart from the reigning starts of that time Dilip kumar and Dev Anand.

He floored the audiences with his new avatar in Nasir Hussain’s Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 1957. Then came Dil Deke Dekho with Asha Parekh in 1959 and the 1961 superhit Junglee. Shammi Kapoor had arrived and never looked back since.

He gave back to back hits like Kashmir Ki Kali, Professor, An Evening in Paris, Teesri Manzil, Brahmachari and many more. Not only films, but Shammi also gave us chartbusters like Aaja, aaja, main who pyar tera and Aajkal tere mere pyar ke charche.

While he was best known for his rock ‘n roll moves and ‘wild’ persona, some of the best, but not-so-often remembered songs were also picturised on him. Remember Ehsaan tera hoga mujh par and Dil ke Jarokhe me tujhko bithakar?

On his 83rd birthday today, we relive the magic a man, who wooed a generation with his ‘junglee’ antics, set hearts aflutter with his intense looks and tugged at the heartstrings with his emotional songs.
