Leading Thai businesses showed keen interest in India at ‘Doing Business in India

Thai businesses in various sectors participated in the seminar ‘Doing Business in India: Forum for Thai Executives’ at Hotel Plaza Athenee Bangkok.

Organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi in cooperation with Embassy of India in Bangkok, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries, Thansettakij and Krungthepthurakij newspapers, the seminar aimed to provide useful information to Thai business executives who are seriously interested in investing in India, as well as those who have already set up their business in the country.

The highlight of this year’s seminar was the state of Gujarat – a destination to which Thai investors have yet to venture.

Two executives of Indian investment promotion agencies spoke at the seminar: Dr. Anupam Srivastava, Managing Director of Invest India and Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Managing Director of Gujarat’s Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb). Both speakers flew directly to Bangkok for the first-of-a-kind interactive sessions with the Thai private sector.

In addition to the two speakers, Mr. Prashant Agrawal, Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Bangkok gave presentation on business visas for Thai investors and answered queries regarding assistance from the Embassy for Thai businesses.

Thai companies in various sectors turned up at the forum. Executives from leading Thai companies who have already invested in India such as CP, ITD, Pruksa Real Estate, Srithai Superware and Rockworth participated in the seminar. The meeting also saw executives and representatives of Thai MSMEs.

In the afternoon, Dr. Anupam Srivastava and Mr. Mukesh Kumar held private “investment clinic” meetings with a number of Thai companies. Team Thailand in India (Ambassador Pisan Manawapat, Mr. Tomwit Jarnson, Consul-General in Mumbai, Mr. Chanchai Charanvatnakit, Consul-General in Chennai, Mr. Adul Chotinisakorn, Director of Thai Trade Center Mumbai, and Ms. Kanokporn Choitpal, Director of Board of Investment office Mumbai, also held informal group discussions with Thai businesses.
