The five-day-long Thailand Trade Show was inaugurated recently in Chandigarh. The Trade Show has been organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce and Royal Thai government.

Anil Joshi, Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce, and Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum, Minister, Royal Thai Embassy, inaugurated the show on Wednesday, which was followed by a traditional Thai dance performance.

Joshi appreciated the response of the people on the first day of the show and also shared the idea of organising a Punjab fair in Thailand.

Chaiyindeepum said the trade and cultural ties between India and Thailand were growing, particularly through the ASEAN community. He stressed further strengthening of trade and tourism relations between the two countries.

Deepak Mittal, chairman, CII, Punjab State Council and Managing Director, International Tractors Limited, asserted that bilateral trade between India and Thailand had expanded by over six times since 2000.

Pikender Pal Singh, regional director, CII, said, “In the current global economic scenario, where Asia-Pacific region is acquiring increasing importance with its fast economic growth, intra-regional cooperation has become imperative and India should grab this opportunity as well.”

It may be noted that trade show is the first of its kind in the Region, with over fifty companies from Thailand displaying an exclusive range of Home Decorations, Cosmetics, Handicrafts and much more.

The five days mega event starting from 26th September to 30th September 2012 would be the most sought after event of the town.
