Chiang Mai examines water quality in city’s moat

Chiang-Mai

Chiang Mai Municipality has inspected water quality in the city’s moat ahead of the upcoming Songkran Festival.

Mayor Tassanai Booranupakorn first visited the city’s moat at a point opposite Pa Pao temple, Muang district of Chiang Mai, to initiate an inspection of present water quality.

Elsewhere, two trucks sprayed chlorine into the moat to improve the condition of the water. Chlorine has been added to the moat as scheduled on 1st, 5th, and 9th of April, with fountains to be operated 16-hours a day to increase the oxygen in the water. In addition, water is collected from 20 different places in the moat to be examined.

Currently, the Chiang Mai moat water is considered suitable for splashing during Songkran, but still does not meet the required standards for drinking or even bathing.

Signs warning of deep water are placed around the moat and security officers are deployed to take care of the safety of revellers, he added.
