The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecasted that the Thai economy this year would grow by only 2.5 percent, the lowest in the ASEAN region.
According to the IMF, the economies of emerging markets would expand only by 4.9 percent, which is 0.2 percent lower than their earlier projection in March. Thailand’s economy would also see the least growth in the ASEAN region, thanks to political disputes and possible capital outflows from the region.
Despite the fact that the economies of many developed countries have a positive trend, Mr. Blanchard cautioned that many investors might be overlook some underlying problems within these countries, as their current account deficit and debt levels still remain high.
With a rather bleak outlook on the world economy overall, the IMF suggested that it is very important to have the right fiscal policies that would stimulate the growth of the economies of various nations.
